The Valentine Group
Gives Back

Since 1946...

The Valentine Group has been building community in Calgary for over 80 years, actively giving to causes they believe in. Since 1946, the group has given millions of dollars to local, national, and international charities. Shirley and Ted Valentine volunteered together for over 60 years, sharing thousands of hours of their time and talents. They encouraged everyone in the organization to do the same. Today, well over 100,000 volunteer hours are attributable to the Valentine Group – and we’re proud to be able to continue this legacy.

Giving together

Giving is one of our core values. We do our part to make Calgary a better place by creating opportunities for staff and their families to give back. Sometimes that means getting together to Feed the Hungry on a weekend. Often that means turning a staff holiday party into a fundraiser for the foodbank. We believe our workplace teams are stronger because they give together.

Helping kids play

Our goal is to make our city the very best place to live, work, and play – and we believe every kid should have a chance to participate. We love supporting local teams and do our best to eliminate barriers for youth. If you’ve had the opportunity to watch minor sports in Calgary, chances are you’ve seen our branding on a hockey jersey, soccer kit, or in a game day program.

The arts matter

We love supporting the arts and believe that in doing so we are contributing to a stronger, more resilient and more connected city. From film festivals and Honens, to the Alberta Ballet and our Calgary Phil – we’re proud of the talent that resides here. Our aim in all of our giving is to enhance accessibility and help to improve the quality of life in what we believe is one of the best cities in the world.

Walking the walk

Shirley Valentine was the matriarch of the Valentine Group, and when it came to giving back and volunteering she was in a category of her own. She built schools in India and travelled to India, Burkina Faso, and Togo to immunize kids against polio. While at home in Calgary she chaired boards, fed the hungry, and donated thousands of hours to worthy causes. She definitely talked the talk, but more importantly she always walked the walk!
